Age: In his early 160s
Gender: Male
Race: Vinar
Class: Politician
Title: Chieftan of Apep
Character Description:
At first glance you can tell he's a man of stature. His tall, slender frame is always
covered with some of the finest clothes in Vinar, if not the world. They're usually black or dark gray, his favored colors.
His eyes show a certain intensity and wisdom, his silver hair simply adding to that effect. He wears hooked rings on many
of his fingers, both an impressive sight and a brutal makeshift weapon for other purposes.
History:
Bakenkhonsu
began his life as a lowly merchant, or more accurately, a con man. His parents died young, but before their passing they left
him a few history texts and a fair amount of money to make his way in life. His studies of the past made him realize the mistakes
that past rulers made, and seeds of ambition were planted. Using his shop as a front for gambling (which was rigged, naturally),
he soon became quite wealthy, but he couldn't show-boat it until he got a job worthy of his fortune.
By then he was in his 130's and began to infultrate the clan's political system, and by his late 150's he had a good
idea of its inner workings. It wasn't until too long ago that his plans would be set into motion.
The current chieftan had a weakness for gambling, and constantly played a card game known as Three Stars in the Sky.
One night he encountered Bakenkhonsu in the Capitol and a secret game was started. The chieftan, so confident he would win
after getting the second highest hand in the game, was foolish enough to gamble his very title. Bakenkhonsu, who of course
was cheating, had the highest hand and effectively seized power. At first the chief refused to give up, but Bakenkhonsu pointed
out that then he'd have to admit to starting the game in the first place, and before all was said and done he'd probably have
to relinquish his position anyhow. Bakenkhonsu was triumphant.
He quickly changed things around, replacing the good ministers with ones he personally liked, which were of course ones
who were corrupt and greedy. He made sure to have the former chief exiled to eliminate all traces of his rule. Bakenkhonsu
dipped his hand in all businesses in Apep, helping the nobles get richer and making sure everyone kissed his ass, or else.
To make his take-over more official, he even married the former chief's daughter, Nefertari. Of course, she was supsicious
of him ever since he rose to power, but with his wealth and power he managed to recover a mystic necklace from a trader in
the Nordelands that turned her into an effective puppet and trophy wife.
Under his 'leadership,' Apep has become greatly corrupt, making the city into a shadow of its former self. However, he
continues to keep his people in line with burtal use of soldiers, blackmail, and death-threats. He's effectively an unopposed
tyrant.
